Obituary

Ehi Voye, born Ehidiamehen Irabor Borha, passed after 50 vibrant years of life. Ehi is known for his humor, huge personality, and commitment to maintaining friendships and family connections. No one was a stranger to Ehi. With his charming wit and ability to impersonate anyone, Ehi had a large friendship group, including high school classmates from his beloved hometown of Teaneck, New Jersey. Ehi was a true connector who formed meaningful relationships with the family of his grandmother, Lois Hannah Davis Small, and grandfather, Leo Small. He honored their legacy by maintaining strong family bonds through regular check-ins via phone calls and Facebook.

Ehi was born on February 8, 1975, in Pensacola, Florida. He shares the same birthday month as his grandmother, who frequently doted on her only grandson. Ehi was the middle child of his mother, Levon Borha. Ehi inherited the musical gift of singing from his mother, who was once a classically trained opera singer. Ehi was known for having a beautiful voice and a love of music. He is also a child of hip hop and the New York music scene. He's met a host of celebrities and was once in a group mentored by Al B. Sure!

Ehi often spoke affectionately about growing up in his childhood church, Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) in Harlem. Kelly Temple formed a huge part of Ehi's life, in providing a place to meet friends, sing in the choir, and receive mentoring from elders and ministers. Ehi treated church members as his extended family. A prominent church member, Pastor Nancy Jacobs, is Ehi's godmother.

After graduating from Teaneck High School in 1993, Ehi enrolled in Hampton University. He later entered the US Navy in 2001. Ehi managed a team of 10 service members and did 9 undersea missions on a ballistic missile submarine. He was honorably discharged in 2009.

After returning to civilian life, Ehi received his undergraduate degree from North Carolina A&T State University in 2014. He later received his MBA from South University in 2016. Ehi was a proud union member as a post office employee.

Ehi's legacy is in the children he mentored. He was a devoted stepfather as the former husband of Angelique Holloway. He also volunteered as a basketball coach and youth mentor. Since a teenager, Ehi used basketball to mentor the next generation. Imadé Borha, his baby sister, still remembers Ehi saying "make a V" in shooting off the backboard.

Ehi is survived by his mother, Levon, as well as his older sister Eko Borha-Bhadmos and younger sister Imadé. Ehi leaves behind a tight brotherhood of best friends from New York and New Jersey. He was the godfather of Sophia, the daughter of his best friend Shonnell Williams.

Ehi leaves behind a host of relatives and friends. He will be missed by his beloved Aunt Lorna, and her children, Butch, Kirby, and Zelda Hassell, Karen and Paul Canada, cousins Jennifer, Eleanor, and Dinean Davis, Reggie Davis and his family. He also leaves behind Voulvyn Small and Donna Lee Michaels, as well as the Michaels family, in which he was an unofficial member. He left behind many friends and co-workers.

Ehi is remembered as a gregarious soul who was always the life of the party.
