Obituary

Mr. Edward King McKellar, Sr., 87, son the late Maxie McKellar and the late Iona McKellar Thompson passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2022.  Edward was born on November 16, 1934 in Roberson County, NC.

He was educated in the Roberson County School System.  He married the love of his life, Helen Pittman McKellar of which they shared over 65 years together and to this union six children were born.

At an early age, Edward gave his life to Christ.  He also encouraged his children to serve the Lord.  For many years he was a dedicated member at The Power House of Deliverance Church in Greensboro, NC.  There he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Boy Scout Leader.  He later moved to Holy Temple United Holy church of Greensboro, NC.  There he served as Deacon, musician, and sang with the senior choir, gospel choir, and men's choir.  He attended Well Springs Solution Memory Care Center.  He thoroughly enjoyed playing the piano for all the clients.

He was a strong-willed entrepreneur, doing whatever it took to provide for his family.  He owned a small grilled restaurant, a convenient store, and E.K. McKellar Janitorial Service.  As he would say, "You don't know what you can do until you try."  He did not like I can't.

Edward was a friendly person and met no strangers.  His sense of humor and personality was loved by many. He loved family gatherings and eating.  During the family gatherings, he mostly enjoyed playing the piano and singing hymns and old-time gospel.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters.

He leaves to cherish precious memories to his wife, Helen McKellar; three daughters, Linda Hairston (Leon), Lasheila McKellar, and Benita Thompson (Steven) all of Greensboro, NC; three sons, Edward King McKellar, Jr., Antonio McKellar (Marsha), and Christopher McKellar all of Greensboro, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 19 in Hargett Funeral Service, Inc., 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 in Love and Faith Christian Fellowship Church, 4344 Blackberry Road, Greensboro; visitation with the family begins at 11:30 am followed by the service at 12:00 pm.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
