Obituary

On Friday February 6, 2026, as God walked through His garden He saw fit to pluck a beautiful flower who was ready to be picked at that hour. Dorthy Donnell Milton, was born March 19, 1936 to the late Rufus and Carrie Jones Donnell. She was the oldest of seven siblings.

"Dot" as she was affectionately known, was a life long resident of Guilford County and attended Poplar Grove Elementary School and Graduated from Brown Summit High School.

At an early age Dot was Baptized at White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was a life member. She was a member of the Missionary Ministry, and worked faithfully supporting functions sponsored by the missionaries. She especially enjoyed her role of collecting for the Mother's Day Patron List. It was a known fact that she always be the leader in collecting more patrons than anyone. She had also served as an usher in her earlier years. She supported the church unselfishly in every way that was needed.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Henry Milton and was loving and devoted mother to six children. Dot loved life and she loved people. She was passionate about helping family, friends, and strangers. She never expected anything in return, nor did she want recognition for any of her deeds. Everything she did was from the kindness of her heart. She knew that her reward was waiting for her in heaven. She worked as a caregiver for many years to the Cunningham and Armfield families and loved these children as she did her own. Dot was a great cook and displayed her cooking skills by cooking meals for family and friends. Everyone was welcome to stop by Dot's house for a meal.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Anthony Donnell, Larry and Grayland Milton, her brothers Rufus and Lorenzo Donnell, her granddaughter Tanisha Fewell, and her great- grandson RySyrus Whitehurst.

Dot's presence will be deeply missed. She touched the lives of everyone around her with kindness, a helping hand, and her words of encouragement.

Loved ones left to cherish her memories are her children, Micheal Donnell, Glenda Milton, James Milton; her step-son Van Barber; her siblings, Carolyn Watlington, George Donnell (Minnie), James Donnell (Carolyn) and Gloria White; grandchildren, Ridge Milton, Anthony Donnell Jr, Damion Spencer, Larissa Milton, Rikki Singletary; Great granddaughter Kaitlyn Spencer, sister in-law Debbie Donnell; special cousin, Josephine Frazier, special friends, Frances Womack, Betty Graves, Virginia Benton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
