Obituary

Doris Mae Whitsett, 88, was born September 4, 1937 to the late Mr. Homer Whitsett and Mrs. Lillie Bell Shaw Whitsett, in Gibsonville, Nc. She departed this life on January 22, 2026 at her residence in Greensboro, NC.

She received her education in the Guilford County School System.

At an early age, she received our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ under the leadership of her grandparents, Deacons James and Hattie Shaw.

She later joined Fruit of the Spirt Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Apoostle Horace C. Baker & Evangelist Bettye J. Baker. She was a faithful member and served as the president of the Pastors Aide for over 35 years. From 2017, she served as the "Mother of the Church", under the leadership of Bishop Rory C. Baker Sr & Elder Melissa Baker. She remained faithful to rearing the young, praying for and over the leaders & Ministries. She exemplified holiness in her walk, speech, her conduct and dress code. She believed, if you talked about Jesus you MUST know who HE is.

She as employed for the majority of her life, as a Private Household Caregiver for several families. She faithfully worked for Dr. Eric & Kathy Kraus for over 37 years, where she later retired.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, taking family vacation's, traveling with friends, attending Gospel Quartet singing, talking on the telephone and attending Church services. Christmas was her favorite time of year; gifting was important to her. She was a woman who did not bite her tongue and spoke direct-but, her heart was filled with love and compassion. She made you feel good about yourself and was an awesome comforter. She was our Super WOMAN and JILL of all trades! Her early years, she managed the Blue Jays Softball team, the Morning Star Singers from Gibsonville NC and organized the Fruit of the Spirt Chorale. She was a personal beautician as she loved to fix hair.

Acts 16:14 "And a certain woman… a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, Heard us: whose heart the Lord opened…"

She is preceded in death by her mother & father, Mr. Homer Whitsett Sr and Mrs. Lillie Bell Shaw Whitsett, Seven brothers: Holman Whitsett Jr., Harvey Whitsett, Marion Whitsett, Thomas Whitsett, Andre Whitsett, Clark Whitsett and Napoleon Whitsett; One sister: Mary Sue Whitsett Cheek, Two Daughters: Marilyn Whitsett and Charlotte Whitsett Jones; One bonus brother: Paul Beasley.

She Leaves to cherish her memories- Three Daughters: Vanessa Snipes, Myra Inman (Husband James), Marion Fewell (Husband Darren) of Greensboro, NC; Two Sons: Williams Whitsett ( Wife Annette) of Saxapahaw, NC and Felix Whitsett ( Wife Kimberly) of Greensboro, NC; Two Sisters: Elfredia Whitsett of Greensboro NC and Dorethia Leath of Gibsonville NC; One Brother: James (JE) Whitsett of Greensboro, NC. Bonus Brother: Rev. Dr. Frank Thompson Jr of Greensboro, NC.

  • Twelve (12) Grandchildren: Willis Workman, Daris Workman (wife Lashon), Iris (Whitsett) Price (Husband, Ezra), Tameka Workman, Adrian Workman, Shameka Whitsett, William Whitsett Jr. (Wife, Reshonda), Shaquela Chapman, Tanika Whitsett, Varnysha Whitsett, LaNika Whitsett, Felix Whitsett II and Dominque Crouch.

  • Twenty Two (22) Great Grandchildren
  • Fourteen (14) Great- Great Grandchildren

A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, several God Daughters, God Sons and God Grandchildren.

Isaiah 66:13 ( NIV) " As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem."

Public viewing of Ms. Whitsett is 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Friday the 06th in Hargett Funeral Services 905 East Market St. Greensboro, NC. Visitation with the family and funeral service is 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively Saturday February 07, 2026 in New Light Missionary Baptist Church 1105 Willow Road Greensboro, NC. Interment will follow in Gibsonville Cemetery 1204 Springwood Avenue Gibsonville, NC.
