Derrick Vashon Alexander, son of Rondal and the late Sandra Carlton Alexander, was born on December 8, 1977. His father notes being overwhelmed with excitement about the birth of a son. Derrick graduated from Southeast High School in Greensboro, NC, where he fell in love with wrestling. Derrick also graduated from North Carolina Agricultural Technical State University in Greensboro, NC, where his parents, sister, and several other family members also graduated. After receiving his Bachelor of Social Work degree, Derrick served as a Family Advocate with Guilford Child Development. It was at a conference during that position that Derrick met the love of his life, Seanee. Derrick returned to college to attend the University of South Carolina at Columbia and received a Master of Social Work degree. After graduate school, Derrick continued his career as a social worker, eventually serving as a School Social Worker for the Alamance-Burlington school system for seventeen years. Most of those years were spent with the Red Devils at Graham High School in Graham, NC.

Derrick started his walk with God at an early age at Shiloh Baptist Church in Greensboro. There he participated in Boy Scouts of America and sang in the Youth Choir. He also participated in a gospel rap group at church. He would later join Love & Faith Christian Fellowship Church in Greensboro, NC with his wife and children.

Derrick loved God and felt God led him in so many ways, including his desire to help others. Derrick had an immeasurable passion for young people and community service. He was a mentor with the Reach 1 Teach 1 mentoring program. He was also an active member of the Gamma Beta Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

Derrick was petite and mighty. He loved you genuinely and with a big smile. His adoration for music of all genres and movies kept him young at heart. Although he did not originally love sports, he attended every soccer, football, track and field, and basketball practice, game/meet and event he could attend for his sons. And he came with snacks and candy for all.

Derrick was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Carlton Alexander. He is survived by his devoted wife, Seanee Garris Alexander. He leaves to cherish memories and his legacy with his sons; Dylan James and Jamison Deshawn Alexander. He is also survived by his father, Rondal Alexander; sister, Tonya Alexander; mother-in-law, Betty Garris; sister-in-law, Carrissima Garris Martin (Wesley); and, sister-in-law, Caraina Garris Edwards. He also leaves to mourn two nephews, two nieces, a Goddaughter and three Godsons. Derrick loved being with the children, whether discussing the latest musical artists with Quenton or entertaining Andrew and Zoe in cousin’s camp with his sons or attending Tori’s dance recitals. In addition, he leaves to mourn his extended family, best friends known as “The Kings”, fraternity brothers, colleagues, and beloved friends.

Public viewing of Mr. Alexander is 12:00 p.m. through 5:00 p.m. Wednesday the 29th in Hargett Funeral Service 905 East Market Street Greensboro, NC. Visitation with the family and funeral service are 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. respectively Thursday July 30, 2026 in Love & Faith Christian Fellowship 4344 Blackberry Road Greensboro, NC. Interment is in Forest Lawn Cemetery 3901 Forest Lawn Drive Greensboro, NC.
