IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Deirdre Mobley
Riggins
May 4, 1961 – April 19, 2020
The measure of one's life is not in the possessions or wealth accumulated over time but their
impact on the lives of others. As we celebrate the life of Deirdre M. Riggins, we do so with
fond memories and reverential adoration in our hearts.
Deirdre Mobley Riggins, the oldest daughter of Lorraine (Foster) Mobley and Richard Mobley
Sr., was born on May 4, 1961 in Buffalo, New York, and on Sunday April 19, 2020, she transitioned to be with the Lord. Deirdre or "Deerie", as she is affectionately called by her family and friends, is the second oldest of seven children. She was raised in Greensboro, North Carolina and is a graduate of James B. Dudley High School. She briefly attended Winston Salem State University and then transitioned into the workforce as a Banker. After working in the banking and sales industry for twenty plus years, she began a career in mental and behavioral health. She cared for her clients who are diagnosed with mental and behavioral disabilities by engaging them in therapeutic recreational activities. Her position at
the nursing facility was perfect for her nurturing, energetic, and supportive character to shine.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and was baptized at Saint James Baptist Church by the Reverend Prince E. Graves. Her grandmother, Bernice L. Foster (2006) encouraged her to join the choir and engage in several church organizations. On December 25, 1989, she gave birth to a son, Duran Bailey and continued to raise him as a single mother until she met the love of her life, Dexter Riggins. After a brief courtship, Deirdre and Dexter were married on September 21, 2002. From that moment on, they built a life filled with love, honor, and respect for each other and their family.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother to her grandson, Ian Bailey. Deirdre was the best Sister, Daughter, and Aunt that anyone could have. She truly loved her entire family and was known to be a lively, vivacious, and caring person. She was supportive and would always come to the rescue for those in need, but she was also firm with holding people accountable to her expectations. Moreover, she always spoke her truth even when no one wanted to hear it, from her. Her witty sense of humor and in-charge personality always filled up the room bringing joy to those in her presence. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Bernice L. Foster (2006).
Deirdre's beautiful legacy includes her husband, Dexter Riggins, mother, Lorraine Mobley; son, Duran Bailey; grandson, Ian Bailey; three sisters, Jewel Mobley, Danica Mobley, and Dacia Mobley; three brothers, Richard Mobley (Junior), Shawn Mobley, and David Mobley; nieces, Aurrielle (Cobb) Williams, Samayia Mobley, and Sade Mobley; nephews, Cameron Mobley and Christian Mobley; and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
A pubic viewing will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro from 12 pm - 5:00 pm.
Services are entrusted to Hargett Funeral Service, Inc.
