David Walter Tatum was born on January 28, 1951, to Walter and Lillian Tatum. He was called home on January 6, 2024.
David was educated at in the Guilford County school system. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1968. David enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. As a child he attended Collins Grove United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. As an adult he became a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Cardes H. Brown, Jr. David is remembered as being a hardworking, loving person who never hesitated to help anyone in need. He was always working on his automobile and helping others who needed assistance with just about anything. David had a fun sense of humor. He made every moment fun with a joke here and there. He brightened every moment with his affectionate smile and laughter.
David leaves behind his wife, Shirley Tatum; brother, Eddie Tatum; uncle, Charles "Skinny" Tatum; sons, David Tatum and Danny (Felicia) Tatum; daughter, Carisa Tatum; stepchildren, Cathy and Tracy Singleton; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
David is proceeded in death by his parents, Walter and Lillian Tatum; brother, Don Tatum, and grandchildren, Donte' Tatum and Devon Tatum.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 15 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro; visitation with the family begins at 11:30 am followed by the service at 12:00 pm.
