The exuberant life of Daniel Mathias Smith, our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend has been called to rest. Daniel peacefully passed away in his sleep on the morning of December 16, 2024. Daniel was born on September 26, 1982. Daniel was the youngest son of David and Mattie Smith. He was a kind and giving spirit that loved spending time with his family and friends, and traveling. He will always be known as the "Good Boy".
If I can help somebody, as I travel along
As a native of Greensboro, NC, Daniel was educated in the Guilford County Public School System. He graduated from Walter Hines Page High School with Honors in 2000. Daniel matriculated through North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he graduated Cum Laude with a BS Degree in Finance in 2005. Daniel also attended Graduate School at North Carolina A&T State University. He loves loved his Alma Mater and embodied AGGIE PRIDE. Daniel owned several businesses including Nine15 Entertainment and Wings on the Run. He was the Office Manager for The Law Office of David B. Smith for over 20 years.
If I can help somebody, with a word
Daniel was reared in a Christian home and joined Bethel A.M.E. Church at an early age. He served in various capacities including, the Bethelites, Sunday School, the Young People's Department, Vacation Bible School, and Acolytes.
My living will not be in vain
Our beloved Daniel answered the call from labor to reward with God saying, "Well done thy good and faithful servant, come home and take your rest."
Although he will missed by many, it warms our hearts to know that he will greeted in heaven by his paternal grandparents, Curly and Sallie Smith; maternal grandparents, Walter Lee and Mattie Hood; uncles, James R. Smith, Sr., Walter Lee Hood, Jr, and John Hood; and first cousin, James Romeo Smith, Jr.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his loving parents, David and Reverend Dr. Mattie Smith; loving brothers, Alan Smith and Damon Smith (Andrea) of Greensboro, NC; five beloved nephews, Matthew Smith, David William Smith, Kanaan Smith, Aaron Smith, and Micah Smith all of Greensboro, NC; aunts, Margaret Tucker (Leonard, Sr.) of Lancaster, SC and Marilyn Hood of Greensboro, NC; uncle, Milton Hood of Lancaster, SC; first cousins, John Smith, Christina Smith-Smalley, DeJaris Tucker, Leonard Tucker, Jr. all of Greensboro, NC, Pelencio Witherspoon of Maryland, Chemeka Hood and Chemira Hood of Aberdeen, NC, Deana Tucker of Columbia, SC, Milton Hood, Jr. of California, Davida Lennon of Greensboro, NC, and Melvin Hood of Lancaster, SC; Godparents, Clarence and Beverly Small of Greensboro, NC; aunts, Ernestine Smith and Thelma Williams of Greensboro, NC and Mary McCain of Whitsett, NC; best friends, Albert Little, Jr. (Wendy), Ray Bellamy (Jeanetta), Kevin Staples, Tanesha Summers, Kathlina Edwards all of Greensboro, NC, Candace Williams, Car'rie Little, and Brandon Tucker all of Charlotte, NC, Eric Crawley and Dustin Miles of San Diego, CA, along with a host of other dear friends who were meaningful to him and enriched his life; Godchildren: Jalen Tucker, Derek Porter, Christian Summer, and Johnie Witherspoon.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, December 20 at Hargett Funeral Service, Inc., 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, December 21 at Bethel AME Church, 200 N. Regan Street, Greensboro; visitation with the family begins at 11:00 am followed by the service at 12:00 pm.
