Obituary

Cornelius Eugene Wallington, Sr., 82, the son of the late Isaac and Elizabeth Ayers Wallington, departed this life early Sunday morning, January 9, 2022.

A quiet but mighty man, he enjoyed working with his hands, gardening, and honoring the legacy of his parents. Creating his own path in life, Cornelius was a family man, who never sought out the spotlight. He provided a solid foundation for growth and wisdom to his family. The patriarch of "The Plantation '' and  "Fixture" in the community over many generations, he has affectionally transitioned from "Daddy" to "Mr. C", to "Grand Master C" and now Grandpa as he was called by his great-grandchildren and family friends he embraced as his own.

Cornelius was not afraid to work hard, following the advice given to him by his father "If you are looking for a handout, look no further than your wrist."

He was employed with Blake Housing Moving Company, after over 40 years. During his time there, he was well respected for his strong work ethics and dependability. He was able to have his grandsons work beside him for several years teaching them the trade bringing him great pride.

Cornelius had a "green thumb" enjoying gardening and riding his lawn mower. He would grow tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, cabbage, collards, cantaloupe, and watermelon always sharing with family and friends. He was able to share his passion with his great- great grandchildren and always bragged about what they were growing.

Cornelius had a true passion for fast cars, drag racing, and country songs. He would build race cars with his friends in his spare time. His need for speed also won him many awards and titles at Piedmont Drag Way.

Cornelius was at his happiest when surround by family. He loved sharing memories from moving historical houses, stories of his parents and siblings, tales of his childhood, jokes, and always reminding us that "Roc Roc" was vicious.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice and Fred; three sisters, Alberta, Doris, and Grace; one daughter, Phyllis Wallington; one son, Cornelius Wallington, Jr.; and one grandson, Marlon Wallington.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Barbara Rorie Wallington; brother, Odell Wallington; sister, Josephine Curry; sister in law, Eliza Ann Wallington; four daughters, Rhonda Wallington, Pamela Patrick (Ricky), Teresa Wallington and Cathy Watts; ten grandchildren, Temicia Wallington-Rhymer (Ronnie),Travis Wallington (Paris),Anitra Patrick, Alisha White (Jerald), Michael Patrick, Tyler Wallington, Justin Patrick, Kenisha Wallington, Adrian Wallington (Antoinette), and Natasha Wallington (Kenneth); seventeen great-grandchildren, Janiya (Jordon), Devontae, Jobe, Makalya, Kyra, Briauna, Chelsea, Azyah, Nina, Nia, Jaela, Micha, Fletcher, Jr., Ariana, Tiana, Adrian, Jr., Christopher, Michael, Jr; three great great grandchildren, Ariel, Aiden, and Jace; special cousin, Carla Wall; longtime friend, Mike Blake; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews that he adored.
