Obituary

Billy Eugene Adams was born to the late Lemiah Adams and the late Julia Adams in Wayne County, North Carolina on September 13, 1941. He was the 7 th of 10 children.  On Wednesday morning February 12, 2020 after a long illness, at his Greensboro home he was called to "Walk through the valley of the shadow of death…. And fear no evil".

"Bit" as he was fondly nicknamed grew up in the Rural Wayne County Best Station Community.  He enjoyed going to church and growing up he faithfully attended Jackson Chapel AME Zion Church.  Billy continued his love for the lord throughout his life and during his later years, he served in numerous capacities in the church, including serving as Deacon and Trustee.  His church affiliations included Saint James Holiness Church in Greensboro and High Point Deliverance Temple.

He attended Wayne County Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in Goldsboro, North Carolina in 1959.  In 1960 Billy enlisted in the United States  Airforce and served as Air Policeman on active duty for 4 years and served 2 years in the Air Force Reserves.  He was honorably discharged in 1966.

Billy enrolled as a freshman at North Carolina A&T State University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology in 1968.  He later earned his master's degree in Social Science Education.

Billy loved education and children and worked for many years with the Guilford County Schools with special needs children.  He worked as a substitute teacher in High Point and Greensboro and later taught in Alamance County at Graham High School where he served as Assistant Principal.

Later during his career, Billy worked in the library at North Carolina A&T State University holding various positions in the Archives Department.  He also worked at the Greensboro Public Library in the Circulation Department and retired in 2014 from NC A&T State University.  He was a writer and produced a series of books on children and discipline.

Billy loved sports and was an avid Laker's fan.  He enjoyed good food, playing chess, checkers, ping pong, and Karaoke.  Billy had a quiet demeanor, enjoyed a good laugh and spending time with family. Known as the "Karaoke King" he enjoyed impersonating various well-known artists and made many appearances around the state.

A very loving father, grandfather, brother and son, Billy leaves to cherish his fond memories his son, Billy Eugene Adams, II and daughter Linda Jeanelle Lindsay (Ty), four wonderful grandchildren, Billy E. Adams, III; Aaron Tye Lindsay, Myrical Taza Sumner and Joslyn Rochelle Lindsay; Sisters: Willie E. Lofton (Leonza); Annie Bell McDonald; Jewell Braswell and Pamela Hudson (Herbert) and Brothers: Marvin B. Adams and Winston C. Adams, and a host of beloved relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers, Joseph & Robert Adams and sister, Amelia Moye Jones.

A homegoing celebration will be held Sunday, February 16, 2020 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 408 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Greensboro, NC.  Visitation with the family will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the service at 6:00 p.m.
