Obituary

Bessie Hewitt Carter was born in Guilford County on August 20, 1932 to the late Lee and Lazonia Clark Hewitt. She entered into eternal rest on September 17, 2021 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

She attended Guilford County Public Schools and was employed by Guilford College for 43 years in the housekeeping department. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, arts and crafts and most of all travelling with her granddaughter Aaliyah to her nationwide gymnastic events.

Bessie was a beloved member of the Guilford Senior Center, She was known for her many crafts and custom jewelry making. She was also a member of Abundant Life Ministries.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Carter Sr, her brother Leroy Hewitt, her sisters Alice Irene Hewitt Thompson Johnson and Alberta Hewitt Bruner.

Bessie leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Beverly Carter of Miami, Fl and son, Harold Carter of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Harold Raleigh (Maria) and Richard Carter (Joycelyn); great grandchildren, Aaliyah Raleigh, Jordan Waters, Jr. (Kelly) and Cryslyn Carter; great great grandchildren, Jordan, Jr. and Johan Waters; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Public viewing of Mrs. Carter is 2 pm - 5:00 pm in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 East Market Street,  Greensboro on Thursday, September 23, 2021. A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, September 24, 201 at the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel.  Visitation with the family is 10:00 am followed by the service at 10:30 am.  Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
