GREENSBORO - Bertha Mary Fewell Keller, daughter of the late Allen James Fewell and Levota Troxler, passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her with love on January 11, 2011. Bertha, affectionately known to her family as "Becky", was born in Guilford County on January 19, 1936. She grew up in Brown Summit where she attended Poplar Grove Elementary School and Brown Summit High School. Bertha lived most of her adult life in Greensboro where she touched the hearts and lives of many people. Bertha was famous for her good nature, unconditional love and devoted care and concern for the people around her. She was an active member of Outreach Baptist Church.
Bertha is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry Keller and her brothers, Otis Fewell, Wayne Fewell and James Fewell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving and beloved sisters, Thelma Gainey, Alberdale Raynor (Tyson), Norma Fewell; her brothers, Alfred Troxler (Virginia), Johnny Fewell; sisters-in-law, Maggie Fewell, Thelma Fewell, Minnie Lee; a host of relatives, nieces and nephews including her beloved niece, Kimberly Raynor-Jones (Darryl) and her adored godchildren, Anthony Ray Donnell and Saniyah Trapp; her second family whom she cherished dearly, Derry Detgen Blackwell (Harden), Anne Detgen Ellis (Hood), Tish Detgen Murray (Joe), Jane Detgen Brown (Randy), Caroline Detgen Haley; Lynn Fifield Black (John), Rich Fifield (Susan), Barry Fifield (Carol), Guion Fifield Stewart-Moore (Dick); 25 "special grandchildren" and 10 "special great-grandchildren" and a multitude of devoted friends.
The homegoing service will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 607 N. Greene St., Greensboro, NC, with the Rev. Jerry R. Corpening officiating. The viewing will be from 1:00 until 1:30, prior to the eulogy service. Interment will follow in White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 2600 Assembly Road. The homegoing service will proceed with a reception in the fellowship hall of Bertha's home church, Outreach Baptist Church, 1301 Sykes Ave.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Moses Cone Hospital for their loving care of Bertha. The family will be receiving guests and friends at the home of Bertha's sister, Alberdale Raynor, 1300 Westridge Road.
