BENNY LEE ELLIOTT, JR., son of the late Benny Lee Elliott, Sr., and Viola Watkins Elliott, was born on August 21, 1947, in Philadelphia, PA. After a lengthy illness, Benny transitioned from pain and suffering to peace and joy in the quiet morning hours on Saturday December 2, 2017, at Beacon Place (Hospice Care) in Greensboro, North Carolina, and he is now resting in the arms of a Loving Savior.
Benny completed his early education, while living with his grandmother in Norlina, NC, under the Warren County Public School System; and completed his undergraduate education at Spring Garden College in Philadelphia, PA, earning a B.S. in Engineering in 1971, after which he moved to North Carolina to be wed to the lovely Lola. Yearning for more knowledge, he entered A&T State University to pursue a Master of Science Degree in Engineering, which he accomplished in 1974. Still desiring to hone his skills and obtain more knowledge, he attended Purdue University where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering and finally obtaining the Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from A&T State University in the mid 1990's. Benny used his skills to serve in various engineering capacities while working for IBM, AT&T and Lucent Technologies for more than three decades, and the Guilford County School System for many years -- finally ending his careers in 2016.
Benny leaves to cherish his memories a faithful, loving wife of 46 years: Lola Foulks Elliott, of the home; two daughters: Angela Elliott and Vanessa Elliott Melton (Jerry); one son: Benny Lee Elliott, III; three grandchildren: Justin Elliott, Jasmine and Christina Melton, all of Greensboro, NC.
Benny dearly loved his family and enjoyed taking them on vacations – whether to the seashore or to the mountains. His grandchildren were the love of his life and they brought him lots of big wide smiles and many hours of happiness and joy.
