Dr. Arthur P. Bell, the cherished Professor and Chair Emeritus of Agricultural Education at North Carolina A&T State University, passed away on early Sunday morning, October 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Queen H. Bell, also a retired professor.
Born on a farm in Rockingham County in Reidsville, NC. Dr. Bell's early life nurtured a deep passion for agriculture. This love led him to graduate with honors from N.C. A&T in 1948, sparking a lifelong commitment to education and the nurturing of young minds.
Dr. Bell began his career as a beloved vocational agriculture teacher in Rowan County, where he inspired countless students. In 1954, he furthered his own education by earning a master's degree from Penn State University and subsequently a doctoral degree from Penn State University in 1966. His tenure at A&T began in 1958 as an assistant professor. Returning as a professor and chairman of the department, he served with dedication until his retirement in 1994. He also guided the university senate as its president for eight impactful years. In 2016, Dr. Bell was inducted into the Hall of fame at NCA&T State University.
A proud veteran, Dr. Bell served his country with courage in World War II and was recognized with the(Bronze Star, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal). He was a longstanding and devoted member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, and his tireless commitment to the community was exemplified by his lifelong membership with the NAACP, where he chaired the annual banquet for many years. Dr. Bell took his role on the Hayes Taylor YMCA board very seriously, considering it one of his most important duties. Additionally, he was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving as a "teller" who counted Sunday's tithes and offerings for many years.
Dr. Bell's warmth and kindness touched the lives of those around him. He is lovingly remembered by his three children: sons Dr. Calvin Arthur Bell (Karen), and Bernard Edgar Bell (Stacy); and his devoted daughter, Dr. Benita P. Bell; his only surviving sister Mary Sue Graves; and his 2 surviving brothers Dr. Jacey Bell and William Bell (Omega); his devoted grandson, Dr. Winston A. Bell, in Nashville, TN; his dedicated primary caregiver and personal assistant, Robert Beasley; 34 loving nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends who cherished him dearly.
Homegoing Celebration is Friday October 25, 2024 in Providence Baptist Church 1106 Tuscaloosa Street Greensboro, NC. Visitation begins 12: 30 p.m., the Sigma service begins 1:45 and the Homegoing Service begins 2:00 p.m. A private interment will take place in Lakeview Memorial Park 1:00 p.m. Saturday October 26, 2024. Livestreaming of the service is available. In the place of flowers the family request donations be made to the Dr. Arthur P. Bell Scholarship Fund Department of Agriculture at NC A&T State University Greensboro North Carolina ". Thank you-AP Bell Family
