GREENSBORO - Mrs. Annie Sue Brooks Hammond (Granny) passed quietly away from the bonds of earth and her illness on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Cone Health Hospital, Greensboro, NC. She was born March 3, 1918 in Rockingham County and was the oldest daughter of the late John and Mary Lowe Ratliff.
Her family later moved to Guilford County where she was raised and attended school. She worked at Greensboro College Infirmary for several years.
Annie Sue met and married James Bruce Brooks and to this union two sons were born, James Bruce Brooks, II and Willie Edward Brooks. Her oldest son, James, preceded her in death.
Annie Sue was a Jehovah's Witness and worked diligently until her health began to fail.
She was married a second time to the late Norman Hammond. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with the grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Annie Sue leaves to cherish her memory: son, Willie Edward (Earline) Brooks; daughter-in-law, Susie Brooks; grandsons, James Bruce Brooks, III and Zackary A. (Dana) Brooks; granddaughters, Tonda Glover, Donna Brooks and Tonya Brooks; great-grandchildren, Jalen Trinity and Aria Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
