Obituary

Albert Sawbo Diabe, Jr., 17, tragically passed away from a violent crime on September 4, 2023, at the Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Albert Sawbo Diabe Jr. was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on July 13, 2006, to Albert S. Diabe, Sr. and Angeline Chea.

We dedicated Albert Diabe, Jr. to the Lord at the All-Nation Evangelical Church in Greensboro, NC, where he attended church services with his mother. When spending time with his Father, Albert Diabe, Sr, and stepmother, Helena Diabe, he attended church services at Winston Salem's First Assembly of God. Albert, Jr. attended James Benson Dudley High School in Greensboro. He moved to Forsyth County in his junior year and attended East Forsyth High School for only one week before his death. Albert was like most 17-year-old boys, enjoying playing video games with his friends and family and cracking jokes. He was passionate about basketball, exploring nature, and spending time with his friends. Albert was loved by many and loved many in return. Those who knew him said he had an infectious energy, and even just one encounter with him would stick with you for life. He had a way of leaving people thinking whether they knew him well. Many acquaintances remembered him for his beautiful smile and hugs.

He was a rising star in basketball with big dreams to accomplish and a beloved son, grandson, brother, and friend. He was a basketball team member on a club called Mamba Squad under the leadership of Coach and Mrs. Sanders and another host of coaches.

Albert Jr. leaves to cherish his loving parents - Albert S. Diabe, Sr., Angeline Chea, stepmother Helena Diabe, and his paternal grandma Martha Diabe, and his closest siblings - Ashley, Othello, Randall, William, Leila, Mary, and Ramazani in the United States and Naomi and Fred in Liberia. He also leaves many uncles, aunts, and other relatives in the United States and Africa who will miss him dearly. The last birthday card from my son for my birthday in 2023, "Happy Birthday, Dad, words can't describe what you mean to me. For all the times you stood by me, all the days and nights. You've Prayed for me. I may have outgrown your lap, But I know I will never outgrow a place in your heart. I know I don't always say it, But you are amazing, and I am so lucky to have you as my Father. I love you so much".

The Mamba Squad AAU basketball organization pays tribute to Albert Diabe Jr., who passed away. He quickly became one of us and was beloved by all. He always displayed a gentle temperament, spoke softly, and was always polite to others. He loved basketball and was starting to zone in on his talents and master the sport. The Mamba Squad offers its deepest condolences.
