Addie "Rae" Hankins was born on November 5th, 1920. She was 96 years old. She was born to Walter Richardson, who was also a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and Eyssie Ora Graves Richardson, who was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Her brother and sisters in order of appearance were: Mary Alice Richardson, Linwood Abraham Richardson, Esther Pendora Richardson, Viola Cordella Richardson, and Sarah Belle Richardson Crite. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 28, 2017 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
She accepted the Lord at an early age and served Him faithfully at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Reidsville, NC. She served on various ancillary committees, was a communion steward, served on the administrative board, sang in the chancellor choir, was active in Sunday school, served on the sick and shut in committee, and was always willing to help raise money for the church and building funds.
"Rae" was a graduate of Browns Summit High School; she was active in sports and played on the basketball team. She loved school and received two certificates for perfect attendance. After graduating from high school, she went to beautician school in Greensboro and became a license beautician. She continued to work as a beautician until she married and moved to Virginia. She then became a homemaker and substitute teacher. Upon her retirement, she took a course in cake baking at Rockingham Community College. She enjoyed making decorative cakes for her grandchildren, sisters, brothers, various nieces, nephews, and family.
She married Warren E. Hankins on October 2, 1954 whom transcended to his Lord and Savior November 14, 1978 and raised a son, Walter Lamont Hankins.
She is survived by her son, Walter Lamont Hankins and his wife, Felicia Hankins; grandson, Jarod Hankins; granddaughter, Jordon Hankins who preceded her in transition to her Lord and Savior on January 9th, 2017; grandniece, Gwen Baldwin whom she helped raise; sister, Sarah Crite; lots of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many, many friends.
Addie Rae Hankins will be missed while she ventures on her way to meet her Lord and Savior and reunite with loved ones long gone. We will miss her soft-spoken nature, her willingness to always help those in need; her energy and spryness, jumping in her car on her way to church or to the store, even at her present age. She raised a garden almost every year, and we will all miss all those fresh fruits and vegetables.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Thursday, March 9 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 9800 US-158, Reidsville, NC. Visitation with the family begins at 1:30 pm followed by the service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
